The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has raised a five-man committee to resolve the crisis emanating from the emergence of Ndudi Elumelu as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
BoT Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, who briefed the media at the party’s Headquarters in Abuja yesterday after its meeting said members of the committee will submit their report within seven days.
He emphasized that the BoT will always work in harmony with the National Working Committee (NWC), as well as co-operate and consult with the NWC to avoid taking conflicting positions.
“We have decided to wade into the matter in the House of Representatives, as regards the minority leadership. To that effect, a committee has been formed under the Chairmanship of Senator Iyorchia Ayu, with senators David Mark, Ibrahim Mantu, Adolphus Wabara as members and Austin Opara as Secretary.
“They have been given a week to submit their report to the BoT and NWC after which a decision would be taken.
On the Osun governorship Verdict, it passed vote of confidence on the judiciary and expressed hope that the decision of the court would deepen the country’s democracy, urging party members to remain law abiding and work with its leadership.
Meanwhile, PDP leaders, elders and stakeholders in Anioma have requested a reversal of Elumelu’s suspension by the NWC.
The group’s spokesman, Dr. Olisa Imegu, explained the position at a media briefing in Asaba yesterday on the recent suspension of Elumelu, who represents Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency.
Imegu, who was former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, said: “This briefing is convened to address our observations regarding the proceedings and processes that led to the unfortunate action.
“We set the records straight on our position and clarify any doubts concerning who we believe is the authentic and substantive Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
“Our position is that we the elders and stakeholders of PDP in Anioma received the unfortunate decision of NEC and leadership of our party to suspend Elumelu with shock and surprise.”
